The event, spread over two days [ 13th January 2018 to 14th January 2018] offered developers the opportunity to take on board the APIs of Telenor Bank, Telenor Telecom and JS Bank – a first for Pakistan. There were approximately 25 teams from across Pakistan where over 200 startups applied from both India Pakistan being shortlisted. The list of judges was varied and consisted of some highly regarded businesspersons and experts.
The special prize was claimed by ‘Bike it’ and this gave them a route straight to the final stage of the second unit. A cash prize was won by Dream X who took away Rs. 100,000 and they were given entry to the final stage of Telenor Accelaration Program. The 2nd runner up was ‘E-Khaata’ and for their efforts they were awarded with VR Headsets from Telenor Bank. The 1st runner up spot was given to ‘Repair Wala’ and they took away VR Headsets from JS Bank but also smart watches from Telenor Bank.
Each team that took part in the competitions used APIs of Easy Paisa, JS Bank and Telenor and displayed their apps to those who were judging the competition. The competition was held at the prestigious National Incubation Center Lahore.
In order to assist the teams, they had access to industry experts who showed and explained how they could consume APIs easily and efficiently with very few problems. The mentors consisted of many experts from a range of areas within the participating banks.
The event had a number of partners who helped make the event as successful as it was including Apigee, Telenor 4G, Telenor Bank, JS Bank, Abacus, Momentum, Techjuice, Careem, Naqeebz Consulting, NIC Lahore, IDG – PC World and MIT Enterprise Forum Pakistan.
The prizes that were won by the contestants were presented and distributed by the President of Abacus Consulting – Asad Ali Khan. Overall this is a start into new era of digital banking in Pakistan.
